IPO Stocks: MasterCard Posts a Record 70% Increase in First-Quarter Profit!

Mastercard Inc. (MA:NYSE) is just rocking in price these last few days. The stock that many have claimed is overvalued has jumped 18% in two days on simple earnings news.
The credit card company posted a 70% increase in its first-quarter profit. It’s a record for Mastercard. It made $214.9 million in profits, or $1.59 per share, during the first three months of 2007. Projections were a measly $1.15 per share!
Revenue jumped 24% to $915.1 million. Mastercard saw a 19.4% increase in the number of credit card transactions and worldwide purchase volume grew a whopping 18%.
It’s nice to see that consumer spending is being relegated to more credit card debt. (Note sarcasm.)
Regardless, our Mastercard holding is up 198% in our open Diligent Investor portfolio. The stock is trading for $134 currently.
