WaveStrength RADAR for November 09, 2006

The answer is simple.

By The WaveStrength Team

Macro Outlook
Why it doesn't pay to think too hard about the elections: The AP is circulating an article analyzing whether the Dem's win will be good or bad for Wal-Mart (WMT:NYSE).

Their trading theorem (near as I can make out) hinges on Congress increasing the minimum wage. Might happen, might not, but I suppose it's an interesting supposition.

Then the authors chase their tails for six paragraphs on whether Wal-Mart will increase cash flow because their poorest customers will have more discretionary income, or lose profits because they will have to pay their workers two bits more an hour.

In the end, they bravely draw absolutely no conclusion as to whether the Wage bill (that doesn't exist yet) will pass, and whether the Big W will net gains or losses.

The answer is simple: Folks in such economic cul-de-sacs have no “discretionary income” now and will still have none if and when some small hike squeaks through the sausage making machinery on Capitol Hill.

And if Wal-Mart is going to go belly up simply on the threat of a minimal wage increase, then they have a lousy business model, and you shouldn't wait till some “Fool on the Hill” makes your mind up for you.

Market Trends
As I mentioned a few days ago, the free Market Report stock play on Advanta Corp. (ADVNA:NASDAQ) that I recommended to you earlier in the year is finally showing adequate gains. So I'd like to take them off the table.

The business credit card company posted immaculate earnings with net income coming in for the third quarter at $21.1 million or $0.73 per share.

Since October 31, the earnings release date, ADVNA has risen 9.00% in value.

If you followed my advice, and purchased shares of ADVNA for $32.83, you're up 16%. For a free play and five months, that's not bad!

SELL YOUR ADVANTA CORP. (ADVNA:NASDAQ) SHARES AT MARKET.

And as always, I'd love to hear from you about your gains. Write me at wavestrength@taipangroup.com with the subject line: “Advanta Gains.”

Well, I asked, and surprisingly got several similar answers.

There've been some big things happening in uranium. By the end of October, it was $60 a pound. That's a rise of 11% over September's monthly spot price.

Tonight, I'll be delving into uranium for a forecast and some potential ways to play it. I'll also address a Market Report reader's question about heating oil.

Trading Tactics
The opening day buzz surrounds around telecommunications-equipment stocks, as shares of Cisco Systems (CSCO:NASDAQ) are up more than 8% after posting strong quarterly results.

Hopefully we can witness some carry-over bullishness in the TTH play we're holding in WS Trader!
